The pieces
Is every piece unique?
Yes. Everything is modelled by hand, without moulds or a wheel, and the glaze is brushed on. Two pieces of the same form never leave the kiln alike: the crystallisation and the runs never repeat.
Can the pieces be used to serve food?
The bowls and dishes use food-safe glaze and should be washed by hand. The vases and candelabra are decorative objects.
How should I care for a piece?
Hand wash with warm water and a mild detergent. Avoid the dishwasher, the microwave and sudden changes in temperature. Small irregularities and colour variations are part of handmade work.
Orders
A piece is sold. Can I order the same one?
We can make a piece in the same language, in form, palette and relief, but never a copy. That is the nature of handmade work.
How long does an order take?
A piece in stock is packed by hand and ships within 5 to 7 working days. A piece made from scratch takes around four weeks, between modelling, drying, glazing and two firings.
Do you ship outside Portugal?
Yes. We ship across Europe, with packing prepared piece by piece. For other destinations, write to us before ordering.
Special projects
Do you work with hotels and restaurants?
Yes. We make service ware, candelabra, vessels at scale and wall installations designed for one space. It starts with a conversation about the table, the room and the calendar.
How does a project begin?
Write to us with a sense of the space, the quantities and the date you have in mind. We reply with a sample proposal before any production begins.
Can you develop a glaze from our own colour?
Yes. We start from a colour reference and develop the glaze through samples until the tone is right.
The brand
Who makes the pieces?
Suzana Barros, by hand, one at a time. terr.a.mar is a family project: the name gathers the initials of her three children and the sea.
