Process
Five steps between clay and table.
01
Modelling
The piece grows by hand, in slabs and coils. Seaweed, limpets and leaves are applied one by one onto the still-damp wall.
2 to 4 days
02
Drying
Slow and in the shade. This is where the piece decides if it survives: the clay shrinks by about a tenth.
7 to 10 days
03
Bisque firing
The first firing, at low temperature. The clay hardens and gains consistency, ready to receive the glaze.
8 to 12 hours
04
Glazing
The glaze is applied by hand, piece by piece. Each colour reacts in its own way to the heat that follows.
1 day
05
Second firing
The final firing, between 1220 and 1240 °C. The kiln rises and falls in stages, in a slow cycle. This is the heat that fixes the glaze and makes each piece food-safe and ready for the table.
